BOSTON - A death investigation is underway after a body was found at a golf course in the city's Dorchester neighborhood, police said.

Boston Police officers responded to the William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park on Circuit Drive after receiving a report of a body there shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Police on Saturday would not say whether the death was suspicious.

Ken Garofalo told Boston 25 News he was golfing on the course when he noticed something was wrong.

"Basically we were just on one of the holes, it was either 12 or 13, and we saw a small police vehicle just shoot by us and a bunch of people just scattered out of the area. It was by the grilling area," he said.

Boston Police quickly blocked off a huge area surrounding the clubhouse after the discovery. Investigators spent the evening combing the area.

Families who were enjoying a day at the Franklin Park Zoo and nearby park were alarmed by the police activity.

"It’s just crazy to think that while we were at the Zoo, this was happening," said Mary Newmyer. "That’s wicked scary, it really is if you think about it, like, the poor person."

Dozens of peole also had to cross through the caution tape to attend a graduation party at the clubhouse.

It was a shocking scene for so many who came to the area for a good time.

"It’s definitely not what you expect, you come to Franklin Park just to enjoy the open air and get a little taste of Dorchester here," Garofalo said. "It’s not every day you come out of 18 and find a body at the end of the hole, definitely in shock still."
