Local and State Police are investigating the incident along with the Essex County DA’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing.

Neighbors said they were stunned to see police arrive in their neighborhood.

“We locked the doors, we looked out the window so we could see the lights," said Tori Stubbs, a resident of the area. “I didn’t want to go outside.”

One witness told Boston 25 News that several people saw a man start running up a hill along Powow Street before being arrested. Other neighbors say they were unnerved to learn the stabbing happened in what they consider to be a quiet part of town.

“It’s upsetting,” said Carl Unger, who lives in the area. “It’s really unfortunate and sad.”
