The Medical Examiner has ruled the shooting deaths of a family of five in Abington a murder-suicide.
Around 7:30 a.m. Monday, Abington Police were called to a home on Centre Avenue after a family member was found unresponsive. First responders found 40-year-old Deirdre Zaccardi apparently deceased. They then found the bodies of four other people, all family members. They were identified as 11-year-old Alexis Zaccardi, 9-year-old twins Nathaniel and Kathryn Zaccardi, and 43-year-old Joseph Zaccardi.
The Medical Examiner determined Deirdre and her three children were shot to death. Their deaths have been ruled a homicide.
Joseph's death was determined to be suicide by a gunshot wound.
Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
The tragic deaths of the Zaccardi family rocked the South Shore community, who is now coming together in solidarity. Grief counselors have been made available at the Abington schools the children attended.
