Crews respond to hazmat situation at Summer Street in Boston

BOSTON — Boston crews responded to a level 2 hazmat situation at 99 Summer Street in downtown Boston on Saturday.

Firefighters got a call around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday about an unusual film substance on a car windshield.

Four and a half hours earlier, crews were at that location responding to a steam leak, which sprayed an unknown debris in the area.

They believe the film could be asbestos, and they were waiting for it to be tested at last update. They said there is no threat to anyone because they don't believe the chemical is airborne as it went away once they fixed the steam leak.

Officials noticed the film once the sun came up.

All of Summer Street was reopened by Monday morning.
