Two hurt in Kingston house fire

KINGSTON, Mass. — Two people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries after a house fire Saturday morning in Kingston.

The fire broke out just after 6:30 a.m. on 2nd Brook Street and five engines responded, eventually fanning the flames.

"When the companies arrived they found heavy fire on the first floor coming from the front door," Chief Mark Douglas of the Kingston Fire Department says. "They entered the building, extinguished the fire. It extended from the first floor to the second floor and partially to the attack.

"As you can see we've made some holes and ventilated the building."

Officials reached the injured on the second floor but say it was a challenge to reach them because of the houses' unique floor plans.

The State's Fire Marshall's office is on scene investigating the cause of the fire.
