Corrections officer accused of driving drunk, crashing into Leominster home

LEOMINSTER, Mass. — A local corrections officer is being charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and smashing his truck into a home in Leominster.

Police say Christopher Bomengen, 27, of Leominster, was placed under arrest for OUI and operating to endanger after he slammed his truck into a home on 147 Lancaster Street.

Investigators said Bomengen is a corrections officer at MCI Shirley.

No one was hurt, but the house was heavily damaged, forcing the homeowners to find somewhere else to live.

"I think I'm still in shock," said Alaine Clattenburg, one of the homeowners. "The whole house shook."

Officials said the crash happened at around 2:15 a.m. and injured one passenger. The vehicle also sustained heavy front-end damage.

Clattenburg and her husband were sleeping in the room right above the point of impact when the crash happened.

Due to the significant structural damage the house suffered during the crash, Clattenburg and her husband will have to find someplace else to stay.

"I physically can't stay in my house, so what am I going to do?" said Clattenburg.

Officers who responded to the crash said Bomengen reeked of alcohol and admitted to having a couple of drinks at a nearby bar.

According to the police report, Bomengen was traveling on the wrong side of Lancaster Street. Investigators said he lost control and then crashed into a retaining wall and the house.

Bomengen was arraigned on Friday in Leominster District Court and was released on personal recognizance.

When approached by Boston 25 outside court, Bomengen refused to answer any questions or make any statements.

He is due back in court in March, and until then he can no longer drive.
