Police identify Massachusetts man found dead off Hawaii coast

HONOLULU — The Massachusetts man whose body was found off the coast of Hawaii has been identified.

Hawaii Police Department spokesperson Alan Richmond told Boston 25 News dental records were used to identify the victim as Charles "Chad" Senechal, 23, of Bellingham.

Police said Senechal’s friends called 911 around 6 p.m. on June 13 to report he didn’t return to shore after their group of seven went swimming at Green Sands Beach. Everyone else from the group was accounted for.

The Coast Guard and Hawaii Fire Department searched for Senechal for two days, but couldn’t find him.

Around 9:45 a.m. on June 15, recreational divers found Senechal's body about 200 yards from the beach and under 50 feet of water. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead around 2:30 p.m. the same day.

Police said foul play is not suspected.

Preliminary autopsy results determined Senechal’s cause of death to be drowning.

Boston 25 News has learned Senechal worked at the Texas Roadhouse in Plymouth. A spokesperson for the restaurant chain told Boston 25 News, "Our staff is deeply saddened by this news. We are keeping the family in our prayers during this difficult time."
