City of Cambridge reports increase in COVID infections

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Health officials in Cambridge said cases of new COVID-19 infections are on the rise.

So far in the month of July, 83 confirmed and probable cases have been reported.

Officials said the city and the Public Health Department are monitoring case trends both in Cambridge and the state and will issue updates and critical information to the community.

The Cambridge Public Health Department is urging residents, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask and practice social distancing in situations where transmission is likely, and when around unvaccinated people, including children.

Health officials said of the 83 COVID cases, 42 percent were breakthrough cases.
