Central Mass. town passes on $100M cannabis farm

CHARLTON, Mass. — The small central Massachusetts town of Charlton has voted down a plan to turn an apple orchard into a massive cannabis farm.

The four-member planning board took the unanimous vote late Wednesday night.

A company called Valley Green Grow was hoping to build one of country's largest cannabis cultivation facilities in Charlton.

The $100 million project would have been the size of 17 football fields, but hundreds of neighbors were against plan, saying the massive operation would harm property values and the quality of life in town.
