Darren Devine, 27, allegedly struck a police officer back on March 15 in Provincetown. After police responded to a call for potential squatting in a house on Pearl Street, law enforcement arrived on scene where they encountered Devine.

The man, who is believed to be homeless, was out on bail charges connected to a 2018 break-in and had recently failed to appear at a hearing in Orleans District Court. His avoidance of the pretrial hearing led to another warrant being issued for Devine's arrest.

Police were trying to handcuff Devine when the suspect allegedly turned around and struck one of the officers in the face. Devine then escaped law enforcement besides being tasered by police.

Devine has been arrested four times before his most recent run in with police. Most recently, Devine was charged after he allegedly broke into a Wellfleet house just off Route 6. He had been charged with two counts of breaking and entering in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony, as well as with trespassing and vandalism.

He had been released on bail until his alleged assault and escape last week.
