1 dead, another seriously injured after driver crashes into Harvard building

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — One person is dead and another was seriously injured after a car crash near Harvard University, officials said.

The single-car crash happened around 4 a.m. Thursday near 1270 Massachusetts Ave. Cambridge police said. The car appears to have crashed into a tree and then through a fence on the Harvard campus, just across the street from Mr. Bartley's restaurant.

Cambridge police confirmed that the male driver of the car was pronounced dead at the hospital and the passenger, also male, sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized.

There were delays in the area as multiple agencies, including State and Harvard police, reconstructed the crash scene and closed part of Mass. Ave. before it was reopened just before 7:30 a.m.
