Cape Cod firefighter left disabled after motorcycle crash

WEST BARNSTABLE, Mass. — A West Barnstable volunteer firefighter will be returning home a paraplegic following a serious motorcycle crash last month, according to the fire department.

Akeem McPherson suffered a severe spinal cord injury and fractured his femur and pelvis, according to a GoFundMe page created by his wife.

“He will need help with medical bills and any other needs in his journey,” his wife wrote.

McPherson is receiving treatment at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston.

“Akeem McPherson is not just my best friend and husband, he is the strongest and most generous person I have met,” his wife added. “He is kind, caring and always willing to help someone in need.”

More than $20,000 has already been raised.
