Bus driver charged with reckless endangerment after student's medical emergency

RAYNHAM, Mass. — A Bridgewater-Raynham bus driver has been charged with reckless endangerment of a child under 18 after a student had a medical emergency onboard a school bus.

The incident happened on June 4 at Laliberte Elementary School.

"School personnel, including the nurse-on-duty, immediately rendered aid to the student, and Raynham Fire ambulance transported the student to a local hospital," police said in a statement. "The student was later transported by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital."

Boston 25 News has learned that the child is a Raynham Middle School student. Police say that the boy was discovered when the bus was stopped in front of the town's elementary school. Investigators are now trying to find out how long the boy was in distress before discovery.

"It's tough because it involves a minor child and we're hoping that the child is okay," said Bill Lucini of Lucini Transportation, who is also launching his own investigation.

According to Lucini, the bus driver involved has been working with the Bridgewater-Raynham District for 27 years and has a clean record.

Last week, a criminal complaint was filed against 60-year-old Christy Hathaway.
