Brookline Police arrest 21-year-old in connection to fatal park stabbing

BROOKLINE, Mass. — Police in Brookline have made an arrest in connection to a fatal stabbing that happened at a local park.

On Wednesday, officials announced 21-year-old Singha Oeun has been arrested for stabbing a 20-year-old man multiple times and eventually killing him.

At 1:38 a.m. on Tuesday, Brookline Police responded to a 911 call for reports of an assault at the Amory Playground. State Police assisted in the investigation on scene, collecting evidence and using search dogs.

The victim, Nicholas "Cole" Kern, was rushed to Beth Israel Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

In a press conference, police said Oeun was arrested in Malden and "technological evidence" played an important role in the arrest. They added the victim and suspect knew each other.

The playground covers more than 8 acres with walking paths, a few ball fields and tennis courts.

Oeun has been charged with murder. He was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing at an arraignment Thursday.

No further details were made immediately available.
