BPD K-9 unit helps nab home invader

BOSTON — Shortly before 10 a.m. on Sunday, Boston Police officers responded to a call in the city's South End neighborhood for a breaking and entering in progress.

Officers responding to the scene were told the suspect was trying to break into a home thorough the back entrance of a building on 410 Boylston Street.

The suspect was described as a white man in his thirties, wearing a black winter hat, red bandana, tan sweatshirt and blue jeans.

A man fitting that description was seeing climbing on the fire escape and entering the building through a window on the second floor.

A Boston Police K-9 handler and his partner, Vader, were able to find the suspect hiding inside a crawl space under stairwell on the first floor of the building.

When the man refused to surrender, Vader was sent in to coerce him to do so.

Boston Police arrested Sam Hess, 28, of Boston, and charged him with breaking and entering, resisting arrest and trespassing.
