Boy hit by car in Westwood dies, organs to be donated, family says

WESTWOOD, Mass. – A young boy hit by a vehicle Sunday in Westwood has died from his injuries, Boston 25 News has learned.

School officials sent a letter to parents saying 1st grade student Edward “Eddie” Thomson died.

The letter included comments from Eddie’s mother.

“Eddie passed away this morning, but we are going to donate his organs to help other families never have to go through this. There will be serviced held at a later date. Rob [Eddie’s father] remains hospitalized. I don’t know for how long but he has a lengthy recovery ahead of him. I’m so grateful for the love and support but we need our privacy right now.”

Six-year-old Eddie and his father were in a crosswalk on Lake Shore Drive near Sheehan Elementary School when they were hit by a vehicle. Eddie’s sister was also with them at the time but was not hit.

Westwood's town administrator told Boston 25 News in a video chat speed does not appear to be an issue in this crash, but sun glare likely is.
