Boston Police looking for gunman after deadly double shooting in Mattapan

BOSTON — Boston Police on Sunday continued to search for the gunman who shot and killed two men late Saturday night.

The shooting happened on Violet Street in Mattapan just off of Blue Hill Avenue around 11 p.m.

Police received a call about a person shot, but when they arrived they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were rushed to area hospitals, where they were pronounced dead.

On Tuesday, Boston Police identified the men as 53-year-old Michael Dukes of Hyde Park and 53-year-old Kevin Boyd of Roxbury.

Neighbors told Boston 25 on Sunday that a cookout and neighborhood gathering was held earlier in the evening before the fatal shooting.

They say the crime needs to stop.

"Hopefully it calms down, and you know I don’t want to be egocentric and say especially in my neighborhood, but you know, since it’s been increasing in my neighborhood, maybe that should be the focus," said Geury Cabrera.

Investigators combed the area for evidence after the shooting.

The two deaths come one week after an innocent bystander, 74-year-old Mattapan grandmother and retired hospital worker Eleanor Maloney, was shot and killed in a triple shooting near her home. Two men found at the scene with gunshot wounds were expected to survive.

Anyone with information on the fatal shootings is asked to call Boston homicide detectives at 617-343-4470.
