Allston man arrested after alleged attack, attempted rape in alley

An Allston man was arrested after allegedly attacking a woman and attempting to rape her in an alley, Brookline Police say.

Police say 20-year-old Mainor Edgardo Suazo-Martinez allegedly followed a woman around 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Saturday, and attacked her and dragged her into an alley.

The woman was able to flee and run away, according to police, and the suspect was tracked down and arrested.

The victim says she was walking home from a friend's house on Commonwealth Avenue when Suazo-Martinez approached her and tried to make conversation. When she declined to engage, he grabbed her phone and keys from her hands.

She tried running away, but police said he grabbed her and pulled her into an alley and sexually assaulted her.

"He had his hands around her neck and tried to choke her," said Lieutenant Harrington. "The victim is very fortunate she wasn’t more seriously injured.”

The woman and her friends were able to give police enough information to track down and arrest Suazo-Martinez about half an hour after police were called.

Suazo-Martinez was charged with assault with intent to rape, strangulation and kidnapping.

Police say Suazo-Martinez has been accused of a similar crime before, and there was already a warrant out for him for another sexual assault case.

A warrant had been sought out for him in Boston for statutory rape of a child.

Suazo-Martinez is being held on $100,000 bail and is expected to be in Brookline District Court on Tuesday for the charges.
