Alleged sexual assault at Weymouth HS under investigation

WEYMOUTH, Mass. -- Police and school officials in Weymouth are investigating after an alleged sexual assault.

According to Weymouth Superintendent Jennifer Curtis-Whipple, the reported assault happened Monday inside of the high school.

Students who know the alleged victim told Boston 25 News reporter Malini Basu they are stunned by the news.

“She’s really nice, the kind that would joke around in class and make you laugh. She would make your mood a lot better,” freshman Gerald Fernandez said.

“This is an unfortunate event and we want to be mindful of the possible effects that this may have on our students,” Curtis-Whipple said in an email to parents.

Guidance counselors and other staff members will be available to students who wish to meet with someone about the reported assault.

School Committee Chairwoman Lisa Belmarsh told the Patriot-Ledger that a suspect is in police custody. Police said they are unable to comment on an arrest or any other aspects of the alleged incident due to the age of the people involved.
