55-year-old New Bedford man charged with murder in connection to fatal stabbing

A New Bedford man was charged with murder in connection to a fatal stabbing, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III.

Police received a 911 call around 12:05 a.m. Sunday from an Emerson Street resident reporting a man had been stabbed during an altercation inside a home.

Responding officers and rescue officials found the victim, 27-year-old New Bedford native Steven Doyle, suffering from a stab wound to the chest.

Doyle was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital form the home, and was later pronounced dead.

Investigators spoke to witnesses and were eventually led to 55-year-old William Macomber, who was found early Sunday morning in a parked car on Shawmut Avenue.

Macomber was arrested and is scheduled to be arraigned on a murder charge in New Bedford District Court Monday morning.
