BOSTON — After a FOX25 investigation last fall into a $48,000 tow bill, the Department of Public Utilities has ordered a new payment amount.

Joel Ramer had taken his Jeep off-roading in Walpole in November when he got stuck in a mud pit. Police responded with Assured Collision to tow it out.

Twelve hours later the truck was removed, albeit with an expensive bill totaling $48,835.

Assured was called for a meeting with the Department of Public Utilities and the bill has been trimmed by tens of thousands of dollars. The company has also been cited for violating two state towing regulations.

The new bill ordered by DPU is listed at $6,476, a fraction of the initial cost.
