Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) County Prosecutor Michael O'Malley says enhanced data collection and research about offenders, victims and case details will help law enforcement agencies track and tackle local violent crime trends.
The federal funding over the next two years was awarded to the office's Crime Strategies Unit, which coordinates information-sharing among law enforcement agencies. It will partner on the work with the Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education at Case Western Reserve University.
The lead Case Western researcher on the grant, Rachel Lovell, says the goal is to reduce some of the most serious offenses occurring in the county.
