3-vehicle crash involving school bus backs up I-95/128 in Westwood

WESTWOOD, Mass. — A three-vehicle crash involving a school bus on Interstate 95/Route 128 backed up traffic Thursday morning.

Only minor injuries were reported in the crash, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The bus, which Xaverian High School confirms is from its school, was hit from behind.

The details were not immediately available, but the car was partially wedged under the back of the bus, though only minor injuries were reported.

Fourteen children were on the bus when it happened, according to state police.

One student, driver of the school bus and driver of the car were taken to the hospital, but only for minor injuries.

Xaverian sent Boston 25 News the following statement Thursday morning:

"A school bus en route to Xaverian this morning was involved in an accident on 95 at the Westwood/Dedham line. The bus services students from Braintree, Randolph, and Canton. All families of students involved have been contacted by Xaverian.

Mr. Michael Nicholson, Xaverian's Assistant Principal for Student Life, met students and the Westwood Police at the scene. The 14 students were examined by EMTs before being released. Out of an abundance of caution, one student was sent to the emergency room for a minor injury. The rest were transported safely to Xaverian on another bus.

In an email notification to Xaverian Brothers High School families, the school's principal, Dr. Jacob Conca, wrote, "We are extremely proud of our young men's behavior today." He added, "As always, the safety and well-being of our students is our first priority. May God continue to watch over the Xaverian community."

All lanes were reopened around 9:30 a.m.
