24-year-old woman shot to death inside car in Dorchester

BOSTON — Boston Police say a woman was sitting in her car when she was shot to death in Dorchester Monday night.

Police responded to a call for shots fired on Ditson and Charles streets just after 9:30 p.m. and found a 24-year-old woman who was shot inside of a car multiple times. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said. This is Boston's 47th homicide this year.

The spot where the woman was shot to death is in a neighborhood surrounded by homes, with a preschool nearby.

Some friends of the woman left candles and notes at the scene later in the morning. They did not want to talk on camera but told Boston 25 News that the victim did not live in the neighborhood.

Police are looking into whether this shooting is related to another homicide that happened four days ago, only a few blocks away on Vinson Street where a 19-year-old was shot and killed.

This is the 8th fatal shooting in just the past 10 days in the city. Gross said he has been in communication with Boston Mayor Marty Walsh about the number of fatal shootings over the past two weeks and emphasized the "importance of us working together as a neighborhood."

Just days ago, Boston' civic and community leaders met to discuss strategy and the effectiveness of city programs aimed at curbing the violence after six fatal shootings in as many days.

The investigation remains active and no arrests have been yet.
