• 2 officers in Iowa killed in ambush, suspect captured

    DES MOINES, Iowa - Two police officers in the Des Moines, Iowa, area were shot to death Wednesday morning in ambush-style attacks about 2 miles apart.  A suspect has been arrested.

    According to the Des Moines Police Department, officers responded to a report of shots fired at about 1:06 a.m. and found an Urbandale Police Department officer who had been shot.

    Des Moines officers responded to help. About 20 minutes later, a Des Moines officer was found shot about 2 miles away. Both officers died.

    The suspect was identified as Scott Michael Greene, a 46-year-old Urbandale resident.

    While Greene was still at large, he was believed to be driving a blue 2011 Ford F-150 with Iowa license plate 780 YFR. Greene was also believed to be armed and dangerous. 

    "There is a clear and present danger to police officers right now," an official said. Officers were paired up while searching for Greene.

    Police announced just before 10:45 a.m. that Greene had been captured.

    Urbandale is a city in the Des Moines metro area. The Urbandale Superintendent canceled school for Wednesday.
