2 dogs perish in Boxford house fire

BOXFORD, Mass. — A Boxford family is searching for a new place to stay after they lost their home in a fire Wednesday evening.

Firefighters were called to a single-family home on Main Street Wednesday after it became engulfed in flames.

A neighbor who smelled smoke called 911, but was worried the homeowners were there at the time.

"We didn't know if anyone was home because there were cars in the yard and we could hear a dog barking," a neighbor told Boston 25 News.

An animal control officer was called to the house to recover the remains of the dogs.

The Boxford Fire Chief says the home is a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
