16-year-old held without bail in murder, decapitation of Lawrence teen

SALEM, Mass. — A 16-year-old has been indicted for first degree murder in the death and decapitation of a Lawrence teen.

Matthew Borges allegedly confessed to killing Lee Paulino and cutting his head off in November, according to court documents.

Paulino’s decapitated body was found on the bank of the Merrimack River in Lawrence at the beginning of December.

The 16-year-old’s classmate told police the two had gone down to the river to smoke marijuana before he allegedly killed him.

Borges will be tried in Salem Superior court and could face a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Borges was held without bail on an agreement between the district attorney and Borges’ defense attorneys.
