1 dead in Lawrence double shooting

LAWRENCE, Mass. — One man has died after a double shooting in Lawrence, the Essex District Attorney’s Office says.

Lawrence police were called to 234 Bailey Street at 2 a.m. Sunday for a reported shooting.

There, police found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to Lawrence General Hospital where 25-year-old Jenssy Hernandez was pronounced dead. The second victim, a 26-year-old man was taken to Beth Israel Hospital. He is expected to survive.

Lawrence City Councilor Marc Laplante represents Bailey Street, the area where the shooting took place.

"It's horrific and my heart and prayers go out to those who are afflicted and affected by it. Whenever things like this happen it certainly shakes you to your core a little bit... because everybody would wonder... it's natural to say, who could it happen to next," said Laplante.

Lawrence police say a there was a house party breaking up at the time of the shooting. Neighbors tell Boston 25 News the location of the party is notorious for gatherings.

The shooting is under investigation by the Essex District Attorney’s Office and Lawrence police. No arrests have been made.
