1 dead after early morning crash in Mattapan

BOSTON — One person is dead after an early morning crash in Mattapan, according to the Boston Police Department.

Emergency medical services confirmed they were called to the scene of the crash on Blue Hill Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

The driver was ejected from the car during the crash. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities did not immediately release the man's identity.

Surveillance video shows police flying past the Mobil Gas Station on Blue Hill Ave. just before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. Police say the man crashed just outside the Dunkin' Donuts, leaving skid marks, downed polls and a trail of damage in his path.

Employees at the local coffee shop worked all morning to clear the damage to the shop, while police worked to clear the scene.

Now the patched up window at the storefront is a somber reminder to people in the area of the deadly crash.

Police declined to release further details about the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officers said the crash was still under investigation.
