Despite investor claim, city says no plans to build Revs stadium in Boston

BOSTON — Adding a new stadium in the heart of Boston? Apparently, the New England Revolution is eyeing the possibility of building a field right next to TD Garden.

An interview about a proposed soccer stadium in Miami ended up including a bombshell statement about a potential new home for the New England Revolution.

Jorge Mas, one of the investors in the Major League Soccer expansion franchise in Miami, which is run by soccer star David Beckham, spoke with the Miami Herald on Monday.

"The New England Revolution, which is owned by Bob Kraft of the New England Patriots, they're building a facility I think right near or next to Boston Garden, so they're in," said Mas.

Mas' statement about a potential stadium near the Garden is something that has not come up before.

Boston 25 News reached out to Boston City Hall about it and the mayor's office told us:

"Mayor Walsh has always said that he's interested in building a soccer stadium in Boston, however, there is currently no proposal before the city."

Kraft Sports has been working for years to find a site to build a soccer-specific stadium for the Revs.
Potential locations have been discussed in Somerville and South Boston, among others.

The Revs currently share Gillette Stadium with the Patriots, but most other MLS teams play in smaller stadiums, which hold around 20 or 25,000 fans.

Boston 25 News has also reached out to Kraft Sports and MLS for comment. So far, we have not heard back.

If the stadium happens, it could mean even more traffic near TD Garden when the soccer season overlaps with the start and finish of hockey and basketball season.

We’re live with the Beckham Group and the Miami Herald’s Editorial Board to talk about the stadium prospect at Melresse Golf Course.
