Haverhill woman dies in single-car crash in Medford

MEDFORD, Mass. — Police are investigating after a Haverhill woman died in a single-car crash in Medford, according to a release from the Massachusetts State Police.

Officials responded to the crash on I-93 southbound near Exit 33 in Medford around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night. Upon arrival, police found the operator of the vehicle - Florence Bisson, 58, of Haverhill - and concluded that she had died during the crash.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Bisson was traveling southbound down I-93 between Exits 33 and 32 when she lost control of the car and crashed. According to police, Bisson was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

The reason why Bisson lost control of the car is still under investigation. The victim was traveling in a 2005 GMC Envoy at the time of the incident.

Officers and a collision reconstruction crew were both on scene following the fatality, as were members of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Medford Fire Department.

State Police and the State Police Collision Analysis and Construction Section are investigating the crash currently. Also assisting are the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, the Middlesex State Police Detectives Unit, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

One lane remained open after the crash, but police said the southbound side of the highway may be temporarily closed as the investigation continues.
