Whitman boy's lemonade stand raises over $1K for the Chesna family

WHITMAN, Mass. — A determined young boy in Whitman raised over $1,100 for fallen Sgt. Michael Chesna's family on Thursday.

Kayla Proto took to Facebook to share how proud she was of 7-year-old Brady after he single-handedly manned a lemonade stand for a very good cause.

Brady worked at the lemonade stand from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and if that wasn't enough, he came back out at 4 p.m. to continue raising money.

Proto says this is the first time Brady's done something like this because he really wanted to help Sgt. Chesna's family.

Several communities came to Brady's lemonade stand to show their support, including members of the Whitman Police Department and other neighboring departments.

Hanson Police Sgt. Daley gave Brady a Sgt. Chesna pin, two Norwell Police officers gave him a patch and the Whitman PD gave him a couple of stickers for his grand gesture.

Brady says he loves police officers and looks up to them, so much that he wanted to dress up as Sgt. Sean Gannon for his school's "hero day."

Forty-two-year-old Chesna and 77-year-old Vera Adams were shot and killed on Sunday.

The man charged in their deaths, 20-year-old Emanuel Lopes, pleaded not guilty to murder charges during his arraignment on Tuesday.
