Van rolls over in North Reading, injuring seven people

NORTH READING, Mass. — A small van rolled off the road in North Reading Tuesday morning, sending seven people to the hospital, according to the North Reading Police Department.

Emergency crews responded to the crash just before 10:30 a.m. in Central Street in the area of Park Street. They found the van flipped on its roof in a cement culvert in 3-4 inches of water.

Six passengers and the driver were freed from the van and taken to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington "with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening."

“This was a serious crash but fortunately not a tragic one,” Chief Muprhy said, “Two residents who saw the crash wasted no time in acting to help the passengers inside the van, and I want to thank them for the important role they played in helping emergency personnel bring everyone to safety.”

Police say the van left the road and hit a guard rail before flipping, but were initially unsure why the van left the road.
