US Rep. Pressley says she'll protect the Affordable Care Act

BOSTON — U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley says she'll fight for policies that protect and defend the Affordable Care Act.

The Massachusetts Democrat and new member of Congress issued a statement Saturday, the ninth anniversary of former President Barack Obama signing the health care legislation into law.

President Donald Trump wants to repeal "Obamacare." His budget proposes turning over major sections of both the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid to the states starting in 2021. With Democrats in charge of the House, Trump's plan has no chance of being enacted.

Pressley says the health care law has provided critical protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

She says no one should have to face financial ruin while they're fighting for their life.
