Recall alert: Salad kits could be contaminated with E. coli

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced a recall of a specific lot of salad kits.

The Fresh Express Sunflower Crisp Chopped Salad Kits have been recalled due to potential E. coli contamination.

The bagged salad kit has UPC number 0 71279 30906 4. They have lot codes that begin with Z and best before date up to and including Dec. 7, 2019.

If you have one of the affected bags of salad, you're being directed to throw it away, even if some of the salad had been eaten and no one got sick, the CDC said.

You are also being told to clean and sanitize whatever refrigerator surfaces came in contact with the bag kit.

Officials are not sure which ingredient may be the source of the contamination, but there is romaine lettuce in the kit. Romaine grown in the Salinas, California, region has been recalled due to a similar contamination issue.
