Escalator problem causes brief panic at Disneyland Paris

MARNE-LA-VALLÉE, FRANCE — An apparent escalator failure was mistaken for gunshots and caused a brief panic at Disneyland Paris, sending the park into a lockdown while police secured the area.

Initial reports via Twitter suggested that there were gunshots in the park prompting a lockdown.

Several people were injured during the evacuation, according to digital news service Actu17.

France's Interior Ministry later confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the public.

Disneyland Paris, which was originally known as Euro Disney Resort, is located in Marne-la-Vallée, France, a town located 20 miles east of downtown Paris.
