Suspect pleads not guilty in arraignment after alleged stabbing in Millis

A new assault allegation is bringing new trouble for a man who remains a key figure in an investigation into his wife's murder.

Ed Burns had very little to say on his way inside the Dedham Superior Court Wednesday, where he was later arraigned on an assault with a dangerous weapon charge for allegedly stabbing a man in Millis last summer.

Over Mother's Day weekend in 2009, Burns' ex-wife Stacey, a mother of five, was stabbed to death in her Wolfeboro, New Hampshire home.

There has never been an arrest, and Burns denies killing his ex-wife, telling other news media he was attending a party in Boston the night Stacey was murdered.

Now, Burns is accused of stabbing a man in Millis, and his ex-wife's sister took out a restraining order against him in Massachusetts after Boston 25 News broke the news about his new arrest.

At Wrentham District Court in August, Burns confronted Bob Ward in front of Boston 25 News camerasm, saying, "You are driving a wedge between my kids and I, my twins and I."

In police reports, Burns told investigators he stabbed the victim out of self defense, something he later told Ward in Wrentham District Court.

"It was self defense, and it's going to come out," Burns said.

Burns remains free on $1,500 cash bail, and is also ordered to stay away from the alleged stabbing victim.

In the meantime, this May, it'll be exactly 10 years since Stacey Burns was murder, with no arrest made.
