State police trooper pulls cruiser into path of wrong-way driver

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — A man driving drunk in the wrong direction along a western Massachusetts highway crashed into a state police cruiser before flipping his pickup truck, according to police.

The man showed obvious signs of impairment when he was finally pulled from his wrecked truck, police said. He was apparently uninjured in the crash.

Police later identified him as Yevgeniy Y.  Rudenko, 31.

Police say the officer was responding to reports of a wrong-way driver and drove into the path of the truck to attempt to stop it.

According to police, Rudenko drove into Longmeadow, Mass. from Connecticut on Route 91. Two other cars were reportedly hit when the man's truck crashed.

Police say no one was seriously injured.
