WEST WARWICK, R.I. — A rookie police officer in Rhode Island was hailed as a hero this weekend after saving several people from a burning home.

Brian Goetz was patrolling West Warwick when he spotted flames and ran into the home early Saturday morning, according to WPRI.

Police say Goetz got everyone out of the home, where a fire was burning on the second floor.

“The smoke and the fire kind of escalated quickly,” Goetz told WPRI. "Instinct just kind of kicked in."

Two people from the house were taken to the hospital.
