Woman, 61, killed, pregnant daughter injured in pedestrian crash in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Mass. — Police have identified a 61-year-old woman killed in a pedestrian crash that also injured her pregnant daughter.

Maria Rodriguez of Lawrence died after she and her 35-year-old daughter were hit by a car just after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Essex and Hampshire streets.

Rodriguez and her pregnant daughter were taken to Lawrence General Hospital by ambulance, but Rodriguez later succumbed to her injuries.

As of late Wednesday night, the 35-year-old woman was in stable condition at a Boston Hospital, according to Lawrence Police.

The driver, who police identified only as a 22-year-old woman from Lawrence, is cooperating with the investigation and has been interviewed, according to police.

Lawrence Police and State Police are actively investigating. Lawrence Police said drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
