Police searching for man who assaulted woman in Quincy park

QUINCY, Mass. — Neighbors say they're changing their routines as police search for a man who assaulted a woman in Quincy.

"I am horrified. It’s terrible," said Cindy Anglehart.

The 49-year-old victim told police she was walking along the dirt path behind the public tennis courts on Russell Park when the attack happened around 11 a.m. Monday.

She says the man pushed her from behind, threw her to the ground and stole her money. The victim suffered cuts during the attack.

Police say the suspect then ran off toward Faxon Field.

Police later found her jacket, her sneakers, and the ditched purse in the woods nearby.

Anglehart,  who walks her dog in this area, is among neighbors who aren't taking any chances. She won't even let her grown daughter walk this path now.

"Now I’m scared. She’s not going to walk alone here. She’s 21 years old, and there’s absolutely no way I’m going to let her do that. Nope," she said.

Jessica Bethka is changing her routine too.

"I’m going to go the long way instead, from now on," Bethka said.

As police continue to investigate and search for the attacker, residents are waiting for news that he's caught, to put them at ease.

"It’s awful. I mean, you want to feel safe as you’re walking around and clearly you can't always do that," Bethka said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Quincy Police.
