The incident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. in the area of 339 Main St. at the town's library. The victim is a 15-year-old boy. Police arrested one suspect, a 17-year-old boy, and recovered a gun at the scene.

The suspect was discovered a short distance away from the scene at a set of railroad tracks.

"An Oxford officer found him an eighth of a mile from the scene and was arrested," said Anthony Saad, Oxford Chief of Police.

Two hours after the suspect's arrest, police located the alleged firearm used in the shooting.

A fight in front of the nearby church prompted the shooting, according to the Oxford Chief of Police.

Police say the suspect is in custody and that there is no threat to the public. The accused teen faces a long list of charges that includes Attempted Murder and has the potential to grow, officials say.

"It just goes to show that things like this can happen in small communities like this," Chief Saad said. "So you want to make sure that you know who your friends are and what they're all about."

Law enforcement is not releasing the names of either teen involved in the incident as they are both minors.
