Police arrest suspect who allegedly broke into Pelham, NH homes

A man was arrested after an alleged rash of break-ins in Pelham, New Hampshire, police say.

Police say they arrested James Freeman for the crime after they found the suspect in possession of some stolen items from homes on Dutton Road.

Pelham resident Joe Carnazzo told Boston 25 News his car was broken into on Friday night, and he quickly learned he wasn't the only one in the area who had items stolen.

"I was actually laying in bed, and my friend Mark was outside," Carnazzo said. "We were having a late night, and he came in and said, 'Hey, we just saw a guy outside laying in the bushes.'"

Carnazzo woke up Saturday morning to see someone had broken into his car, less than 24 hours after noticing the suspicious suspect the night before.

"So, the next morning, came outside and my car, my center console was open," Carnazzo said. "My headphones, everything was out on my seat. My brother said he was missing a couple dollars, couple scratch tickets."

Carnazzo was one of several victims in the string of break-ins, as police say more than 10 homes were targeted in the area of Atwood Road.

"We usually lock our cars," Carnazzo said. "It's the one night we don't."

Other neighbors tell us their cars were also unlocked when someone broke into them Friday night, but they weren't missing many valuables.

"I think he was mainly looking for keys, because I think he wanted to drive to take the car home," Carnazzo said.

Now, neighbors are hoping this incident doesn't happen again after Freeman's arrest.

"I hope it's him, because I can't have my car being broken into anymore," Carnazzo said.

Police said it is still an active investigation, and there could be more victims in the case.

Freeman is awaiting bail at the Pelham Police Department.
