VIDEO: Customer who threw hot soup in restaurant owner's face identified

NEWTON, Mass. — Newton Police have identified the woman captured on surveillance video Monday throwing hot soup in a Newton restaurant owner’s face.

Marjorie Druker, the owner of New England Soup Factory & Modern Rotisserie, said the woman was angry because she was refused a spoon for her sample of soup. Cups are provided for customers to sip their samples of soup.

“We give out five-hundred to six-hundred free samples a day,” Druker said. “I can’t be giving out spoons with every sample.”

The woman got upset with the response and threw her sample cup of hot soup in Druker’s face.

Druker’s daughter, Emily Brophy, saw the whole thing.

“It’s the worst feeling,” Brophy said. “You never want to see any family member get hurt.”

A customer was able to take a picture of a blue Mercedes-Benz convertible the woman drove off in, which helped police track her down.

Police told Boston 25 News the 64-year-old woman, who they didn’t name, will be brought in for a complaint hearing on assault and battery charges.

Druker said her message is simple – treat others the way you want to be treated.
