More than 900 runners hit the pavement for Boston Fire Dept. 10K

BOSTON — More than 900 runners participated in the 37th Annual Boston Firefighters Local 718 10K Memorial Road Race on Sunday morning.

The 10K was created to memorialize the "brave members of the Boston Fire Department and Local 718 who courageously gave their lives while fulfilling their duty for the citizens of Boston," according to a mission statement posted to the organizations Facebook page.

The race celebrates their lives while raising money for many local charities and scholarships, its statement continues.
