President Donald Trump approved a disaster declaration for storms that damaged some Massachusetts counties this March.

The White House announced Thursday that federal funding will be available for Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Worcester counties.

The March 13 and 14 nor'easter blasted through the state, dumping snow and shuttering power for thousands. It was the third nor'easter in about three weeks for the state.

Central Massachusetts residents woke up to two feet of snow and wind gusts along with freezing temperatures forced many into emergency shelters.

The federal funding will be available to "Commonwealth, Tribal, and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities," according to a release from The White House.

Local governments in those counties covered by the declaration will also be eligible for snow-removal reimbursement funding for the 48-hour storm.
