Marblehead Police: Teen girl says man tried to lure her into his car

MARBLEHEAD, Mass. — Marblehead Police are investigating an incident where a man allegedly tried to lure a teen girl into his car.

Police say just after 7 p.m. Wednesday, a 16-year-old girl who was visiting Marblehead for an appointment says she was approached by a man in a car who tried to get her to get inside.

The girl ran into a nearby building and locked herself in a public bathroom. The girl told police she didn't have access to a phone and waited in the bathroom for about 30 minutes before her father came to pick her up, which was pre-arranged.

As soon as he arrived, her father called police.

"They’re around everywhere, you have to be extra safe teach our kids not to get in the car," said Jillian Oppenheim, a parent.

The teen said the man was possibly in his 30s, was either black or Hispanic and was in a small silver car.

The encounter happened near Humphrey Street and Brookhouse Drive.

Police are investigating. If you were in the area Wednesday and remember seeing or hearing anything suspicious, you're asked to call police at 781-631-1212.
