Man loses control, drives through 3 yards before crashing into Newton home

NEWTON, Mass. — A driver was taken to the hospital after losing control behind the wheel and driving through several yards in Newton.

First responders were called to Evelyn Road in Newton Monday afternoon after getting a report of a car into a house.

Police say the 72-year-old male driver lost control for an unknown reason and drove through three backyards before crashing into the back of a home.

Police say the car came down the dead-end street, jumped the curb, went through a fence, clipped the corner of a deck and went down an embankment. It didn't end there. Police say he then came around the corner of a house, jumped a retaining wall, jumped a second wall before he came to a stop at the home.

Neighbors are thankful none of the young children who live in the area were playing outside at the time.

"Thank God there were no kids in the backyard, it's after school, first nice day we've had," said Debbie Kaufman. "It could have been so much worse."

The man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He was alert and talking when transported.

It's still unclear what caused the wild ride.
