Man charged with OUI for allegedly running over pedestrian in Braintree

BRAINTREE, Mass. — A Quincy man is facing OUI charges after police say he ran over a pedestrian in Braintree and fled the scene early Saturday morning.

At around 1 a.m., Braintree Police responded to reports of a person down on the road in the area of 1500 Washington Street. At the scene officers found several vehicles stopped and a man lying on the ground.

The victim, identified only as a 21-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital and authorities launched an investigation.

Preliminary investigation showed the victim was hit by a car while walking along with southbound side of Washington Street. The suspected car had fled the scene.

Later, police found a car they suspected was involved in the crash on South Street in Holbrook.

Police arrested and charged Darrell Young, 25, of Quincy, with operating under the influence of alcohol causing serious injury, leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

The victim remains in the hospital in serious condition.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
