Investigation underway after suspicious Yarmouth fire

YARMOUTH, Mass. — An investigation is underway into a fire in Yarmouth that is being considered suspicious, according to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services.

The Yarmouth Fire Department received a call around 4:20 a.m. on Saturday morning for a fire through a roof on Route 28 in West Yarmouth.

Firefighters first on the scene reported that at least half of the building was involved in the fire, and a second-alarm was immediately called.

The building wasn't occupied, and was divided into three units. The center unit was fully involved from the floor through the roof.

The fire was knocked down after 45 minutes, and crews remained on scene to wet down hot spots.

The building had been vacant for an extended period of time with no utilities.
